When Lin Hanyi (25) and his friend Xie Chuanfu went hunting on an oil palm estate, they stumbled across an exceptionally "fruitful" oil palm tree.

A fruit bunch from the three-year-old tree was packed with many times the normal number of fruit, holding up to a thousand of them.

Many of those who saw the odd 4.8kg fruit bunch were filled with wonder.

The estate workers said they had never seen such an oddly abundant bunch of fruit before.
