Another face is growing on the Pinang tree.
The village is filled with curious visitors who want to see the face on the tree for themselves.
Photos of the "face" on the tree are selling like hot cakes.
BUTTERWORTH: Natural phenomenon or supernatural manifestation? We might never know for sure, but one thing is absolutely certain - Pinang trees with faces growing on them are good for business.
A week ago, Sin Chew Daily published a news article about a Pinang tree with an amazingly human-like “face” growing on one of its fronds. People who heard about it came from miles away just to see it.
Enterprising villagers set up stalls selling photos of the tree at prices ranging from RM2 to RM7. In the space of 4 short days, about 5000 photos of the face on the tree had been sold, which is estimated to add up to RM10,000. Other stalls selling refreshments had also been set up to cater for visitors.
Now another face is growing on the Pinang tree. However, religious authorities have declared the area immediately surrounding the tree off-limits, so curious onlookers are now only able to view it from a distance. Nevertheless, the tree remains a popular attraction.
