SINGAPORE: 211 people took part in a chicken rice-eating competition. The champion, a man who finished his plate of chicken rice in just 71 seconds, was awarded S$2000 (around RM4600) in cash, S$1500 (around RM3450) in prizes and a diamond ring worth S$1500. When asked who he intended to give the ring to, he replied happily: "My wife of course!"
The champion, 36 year old Zhong Luqiang, is a salesman. Not only does he like to eat chicken rice, but he eats it at a faster pace than other people. His friends suggested that he should take part in this chicken rice-eating competition.
Zhong is definitely a master when it comes to eating chicken rice. He can polish off a bowl of rice, a platter of chicken and a bowl of soup in just a few mouthfuls.
Two young brothers were also entered into the competition by their mother. Wu Feihong, 9, and his younger brother Wu Feixiang, 7, were the youngest participants there.
Their mother Yang Jiabao, 35, said that her two sons loved to eat chicken rice, so she brought them to take part in the competition. Not only would the children be able to enjoy some good food, but they would also have some fun.
The competition was organized by Chatterbox Café to celebrate their 35th anniversary. It was the first time they had held such an event.
The rules of the competition were very strict. Contestants not only had to eat quickly, but they also had to do so in a neat and polite fashion. In other words, the table manners of the contestents was also one of the determining factors for deciding the champion.
