Yap cautions car audio systems store owners to be on the lookout for an Indian con artist, and not to let anyone drive away with their car.
The Indian con artist, captured on closed-circuit television.
IPOH: A daring Indian con artist has successfully pulled off a chain of frauds across Peninsular Malaysia.
Targeting shops that sell and install car audio systems, the con artist first "borrows" a car from shop A's owner, takes out the audio systems and other accessories and then drives the stripped car to store B, posing as a customer.
"Borrowing" a different car from shop B's owner, he strips this car as well and then drives it to shop C, again posing as a customer and again asking to "borrow" a car.
By repeating this process over and over again, this enterprising scoundrel has made off with thousands of ringgit in car audio equipment and accessories from shops in Penang, Ipoh, Taiping, Kampar and Johor as well as other areas.
Yao, one of the victims of this bold fraudster, contacted the police after he realised that he had been tricked. He cautions others in the industry to beware this trickster who has a gentlemanly demeanour and looks to be in his 20s.
