Secretary Versus Boss

SINGAPORE: When EMC Greater China CEO Loke Soon Choo sent a harsh letter of reprimand to his senior secretary Rebecca after finding himself locked out of his office, he probably never expected to receive the reply that he did.

On the 7th of April this year, Loke had returned to the office in the evening to get something from his office, only realising that he had forgotten his office keys when he arrived. Because it was after-hours, Loke's secetary Rebecca had already left for home, and could not be contacted.

That night, Loke sent a harsh letter of reprimand to Rebecca through the company's internal email system. He also sent copies of the email to senior managers within the company.

2 days later, Rebecca replied with an equally abrasive email. She also sent copies of her reply to all EMC staff in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Shanghai. The email has since been forwarded to thousands of corporations in China. As a result, Rebecca has gained notoriety as the "Most Stubborn Secretary in History."
