BERLIN, GERMANY: German car hire company Sixt said Tuesday (September 4th) it was removing Porsches from its list of vehicles after customers driving the high-powered sports cars were involved in accidents.
"Sixt has decided to no longer offer Porsches for hire because some customers have acted irresponsibly," Sixt spokesman Frank Elsner told AFP.
"There have been accidents as a result of this behaviour."
Drivers had over-estimated their ability to control such a powerful car, Elsner said.
Some speed-loving driver had taken their Porsches out on the Nuerburgring, the circuit where the German Formula One Grand Prix was held in July, and had burned so much rubber that the cars' specialist tyres had to be replaced.
The Porsche Boxster has a top speed of 256 kilometres per hour.
