Malaysian Man Heals People By Caning Them

  • Despite facing the prospect of being struck until they cry out in pain, members of the public are still willing to line up for their turn to be treated.

SINGAPORE: A Malaysian man has set up a “caning therapy” service in the Lion City and so far business has been great. Every day, scores of people line up to pay S$20 (about RM46) so he will cane them. Some will even ask for a second dose of this unusual treatment.

Those interviewed said that the caning helped relieve their aches and sore muscles.

According to The Sunday Times, the 72-year-old Malaysian Wu Chengguang began treating people with his “caning therapy” below his friend’s flat at Jurong West St 93 No. 987C on November 3rd.

As time passed, more and more people started dropping by. About 50-70 people line up every day to be caned by Wu.

In an interview, Wu said that he learnt his “caning therapy” method from a lama in Xichang when he was 20 years old. In the 50 or so years since then, he has been practicing it continuously. Together with his wife, he set up two treatment centres (one in Southern Thailand, the other in Penang) to treat joints and muscles which were aching or sore.

Wu had originally gone to Singapore to visit a friend, but when word about his “caning therapy” spread, people came from all over the island to see it for themselves. Every day, there would be at least have 50 people waiting in line to receive 11 strokes from Wu’s cane.

After they received their treatment, people would give S$20 to the Master in thanks for his ministrations.

Due to the extraordinarily good business, Wu’s two Singaporean friends became his assistants. They helped maintain order and register patients.

Wu said that the black marks which appeared after he caned the afflicted were signs that the “poisonous energy” was being expelled from their blood circulation system.
