This former private investigor really loves gold accessories.
SINGAPORE: A retired private investigator with a love for gold regularly adorns himself with close to a hundred items of gold jewellery that weigh as much as 1kg in total.
The 67-year-old former PI, a Sikh by the name of Hameng Singh (name transliterated), also enjoys listening to old songs and is a frequent attendee at concerts where such old songs are performed. He loves old Chinese songs, and if you name one of them, he’ll be able to at least hum a few bars from it. He has at least a thousand old Chinese song albums in his collection.
However, it is his love for gold jewellery that makes him stand out visually.
He wears two thick gold chains around his neck upon which 40 gold pendants and 25 gold Buddhist plaques are hung. He also has a total of 14 rings on his ten fingers and a total 14 bracelets encircling his wrists. In addition, whenever he attends a concert, he always wears his trademark golden shirt. Needless to say, it makes for a dazzling display when combined with all his jewellery.
Despite his flashy accessories, the ex-shamus is completely at ease when wandering the streets. He isn’t the least bit worried about becoming the target of unsavoury characters.
He said that he began wearing gold jewellery at the age of six, when his parents bought him some. Even back then, he didn't wear just a single article of jewellery at a time. For that reason, wearing jewellery is a perfectly natural thing to him.
After he graduated and began working as a PI, he believed that Buddhist plaques could protect him, so he began wearing gold Buddhist plaques. As time passed, the number of plaques increased.
A while back, he decided to have someone weigh his jewellery on a whim. That’s when he found out he was carrying 1kg in gold jewellery around with him.
When asked about safety issues, he said that he didn’t wear a lot of jewellery while he was still working. However, when he retired on October 14th this year, he began wearing his jewellery more often, completely unconcerned about what others might think.
