Five adult tigers found in suburban Indonesian home

JAKARTA, Feb 20 (AFP) - Indonesian wildlife officials found five fully-grown tigers during a raid on a house in the suburbs of Jakarta.

The ferocious big cats were seized along with a dozen rare cockatoos and four birds of paradise, Jakarta Natural Resources Conservation Agency head Arief Toengkagie said.

"It's illegal for individuals to keep these animals in their residences as pets. The owner could receive a maximum sentence of five years in prison," Toengkagie said.

Earlier this month, officials discovered a pair of adult tigers and three cubs that had been raised by a Jakarta man over the last 25 years.

The animals were thought to be Sumatran tigers, an endangered species that numbers only 400 in the wild.
