KLANG, SELANGOR: In addition to hitting villain with shoes, you can now "wear" and step on it to get rid of bad luck.

"Villain socks" have been widely accepted in Taiwan in the recent few years, and it is now available in Malaysia starting this year. The word "小人" (villain) and a human figure are printed on the bottom of the socks.

Young people who find difficulties in work, daily life or love can write down the names of their villains on the bottom of the socks. When they wear the socks, it seems like they are stepping on their enemies.

Guang Ming Daily found that villain socks have been quietly brought into Malaysia but not many dealers sell it. Most of the young people actually ask their friends or relatives to bring it back from Taiwan for them.

Young people who faced difficulties in their careers last year may write down the names of their bosses on the socks and step on it. It can help to give vent to their rage and at the same time, pray for good luck.

They can also write down the names of those they dislike on the socks and step on it to get rid of bad luck.

In fact, young people wear villain socks mostly for fun and fashion. They do not believe that it really works but at least, it allows them to give vent to their rage.

It is said that the tradition of "stepping villain" was introduced by Taoism in early years, but not many people know about it.

As the price of the socks is not expensive, some people who visit or learn in Taiwan brought the socks back as souvenir, helping the villain socks to gain popularity among young Malaysians. (Translated by YOU HSUEH LIN/Sin Chew Daily)
