SOFIA, Thursday 24 June 2010 (AFP) - Hundreds of Bulgarians have shared their views on what life will be like in 50 years' time and sealed them in a time capsule to be reopened on June 23, 2060, the national library hosting the project said Thursday.
The 640-page book of thoughts on topics ranging from love to politics, war, technology and extraterrestrials was sealed in a granite block with a countdown timer indicating the minutes left until its opening.
All the thoughts can still be seen on the blog http://2060.bg.
Some were hopeful: "I hope that in 50 years they will prove that man is not the only being in the universe capable of thinking," blogger Svetozar Mladenov wrote.
Others had more traditional visions of the future.
"States will fight in space," one blogger said, while another predicted that: "Robots will replace workers, while men will just supervise them."
For Vladi, dating prospects were more important: "My God! In 2060, the schoolgirls that I'm now trying to pick up will be 67 years old, and I'll be 80. But they will no longer interest me 'cos I'll be then in love with a girl that is yet to be born!"
"In 50 years, Bulgaria will be a prosperous country, with politicians who are no longer corrupt but rather take their deciisons on the basis of public interest," another blogger wished.
