PERAK: A fashion designer bride walked into a church wearing a wedding gown with an 85m-long train sewed by herself on Friday 13 August 2010.
The gown impressed the wedding guests and created a new record in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) as the longest wedding dress train.
The 31-year-old bride from Penang, S. Revathi married her boyfriend of 10 years, S. Gilchris, 38, who has been her business partner. They operate a fashion accessories and costume jewellery business in Penang and Kedah.
The wedding ceremony was held at the church of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Ipoh. The newly-weds accepted the MBR certificate of the longest wedding dress train after the ceremony.
Revathi said that she had wanted a unique wedding. She spent two months and RM5000 to complete her can-can gown with an 8m-long train. Silk fabric and laces were used to make the dress while beads were hand sewn.
She said that she will keep the gown and display it at her shop after the wedding.
It required the assistance of 10 flower girls, a bridesmaid and relatives to get Revathi into the church and arrange the train in perfect order for her.
MBR official Leona Paul, meanwhile, said that the previous record achieved two years ago was a wedding gown with a 35m-long train.
