BANTEAY MEANCHEY, CAMBODIA: On May 9th, a Cambodian wife had a nightmare which became reality when both she and her husband were killed by lightning the very next day.
The incident hapened on May 10th at 5.30pm on a road in Banteay Meanchey.
The victims were 48-year-old Losanie (name transliterated), a bicycle repairer and 42-year-old housewife Rosali (name transliterated), both lived in a village in Banteay Meanchey.
According to a relative of the victims, the wife had a nightmare that both her husband and her had died. The very next day, she went to the temple with her husband so that the monk could bless them with holy water.
After that, they rode home on their motorcycle. It was raining lightly and they were hit by lightning. Both of them died on the spot. The lightning left a 200 metre long crack in the ground.
According to the elders of that village, those who had nightmares like the one the wife experienced should be blessed with holy water from the seven temples to ensure their safety.
A physics professor who wished to remain anonymous said that lightnig strikes were a natural phenomenon, which could happen at any time, especially during rainy days. However, he did not want to refute traditional folk beliefs.
He added that there were many cases of lightning strikes in the past few years in which human and animals were killed or hurt. Therefore, it is better to stay indoors when it is raining.
