CHINA: It was thought of by people and will be built and used by people. In fact, the REN building, is even in the shape of the Chinese character for "people"!

Proposed as a hotel, sports and conference centre for the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, it is conceived as two buildings merging into one.

The first building, emerging from the water, is devoted to the activities of the body. It will house the sports and water culture center.

The second building, emerging from land, is devoted to the spirit and enlightment. It will house the conference center and meeting facilities.

The two buildings meet up to make up a 1000-room hotel.

With these parts interconnected, the entire building will take on the shape of the Chinese character “Ren” which means People. This is targeted to be a landmark for the World Expo.
